Traditional Japanese Nasori Mask Mask

-----Description-----

Nasori Mask (納曽利面) is a  traditional Bugaku dance mask depicting the dragon-like figure of Nasori, one of the most recognizable masks in Japan’s ancient court and shrine dance repertoire.

Symbolism & Character

The mask represents a pair of male and female dragons playing or frolicking together, which is why the dance is also known as the Twin Dragon Dance (双龍舞)

Bugaku is performed at imperial court ceremonies and at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, so Nasori masks carry a ceremonial and protective weight beyond pure theater.
