New This Week 1/12023 - Oni Mask, Tengu Mask & More...
Welcome to Wabisabi Mart.
We specialize in supplying Japanese art to the world.
If you are interested in Noh masks, tattoo art books, or woodblock prints, this is the place to be.
This week's new items include a few oni masks, a lion, the sake god, the storm god, and more. Let's take a look in more detail.
Iron Tengu Mask
I'd say tengu masks are maybe second only to the hannya mask when it comes to traditional Japanese masks.
Did you know, in Japanese mythology, Tengu are mountain dwellers who despise and attack vain and self-involved individuals. This hatred developed from priests and samurai of olden times abusing their positions.
Check out this red iron Tengu mask, an image we often see in red in Japanese tattoos.
Iron Hannya Mask
The hannya may be the most recognized Japanese mask and Japanese tattoo design.
Did you know...the Hannya mask portrays the souls of women who have become demons due to obsession or jealousy.
Check out this black iron Hannya Mask.
I don't come across this Japanese mask often, but when I do, I love how the artist has captured the expression.
Shishiguchi translates to "lion's mouth." The mask's distant features include metallic teeth, gold fangs, and a large red tongue.
This mask is one of my favorites due to his back story. Matsuomyoujin is the Japanese god of brewing and sake. In mythology, he helped the storm god Susanoo defeat a giant two-headed snake by getting it drunk so Susanno could kill the beats and save the girl.
Talking of the Storm god, I also have a beautiful Susanoo in stock.
Thanks for checking out this week's new items; check out our store for more Japanese masks, including Hyottoko, Okame, onna masks, and many more.
